      Slow or about right?

Had sky max installed as of the 18/02/08.

Not sure if i actually have a problem or not, as you can see from the stats below the downstream for 16mb is not fantastic and i suppose could be argued that it is not to bad either.
The upstream is very good i think.

Should i be expecting to get better speeds given the stats below.

I should also mention that we have only just been reconected to a BT line, and that we do seem to have what i call a very slight mushy sound in the background whilst talking on the phone.
The mushy sound is also there when all filters, modem and sky digi box are removed and plugged into the engineers test socket.

      Could this be the reason?

      Re: Slow or about right?

You should do much better. 'Mushy sound' = line fault. Phone BT and tell them you have noise on your line. If they can fix it, you should see an immediate improvement.

      Re: Slow or about right?

You are using filters on everything you have connected to the phone line? If you are, it could be the line fault (mushy sound) that is causing it. When you phone BT don't mention Broadband

      Re: Slow or about right?

      Yup everything running through filters.

Just had a thought, when the BT engineer was here reconnecting us he did say there was a fault up the road i presumed he fixed it.

Why should i not mention Broadband?

BT are not obliged to fix a line for BB faults, only voice. If you mention BB they may just ignore you. When the engineer comes, then it may pay to mention it, but it depends on the engineer. Some are very helpful and others don't give a stuff. Cups of tea/coffee always helps the cause.

      Re: Slow or about right?

Bt engineer arranged for Monday p.m.

Just whipped the face plate off to double check that the engineer only has the 2 wires from there line going in, he has.

Reason i checked is that while he was here he connected all of our old virgin extensions into it, because if it turned out to be one of our extensions we would be charged 116 + 99 for every hour to rectify fault.

So using the test socket with just the phone plugged into it proves it is there new line at fault. Right?

      Re: Slow or about right?

      Hi Philip.
So long as you get the line noise when using a normal corded phone when pluged into the test socket, then yes this is a network fault and you will not be charged.
