      1152kbps... what gives?

Having plugged in the router today and after using the Optimiser recommended on the threads I still only have a connection of 1152kbps.

I'm wired to the router which is currently in the test socket. With only a 32kbps difference between the stats of the master and test sockets is it safe to assume that the problem is not there? I want to put the plate back on before someone sticks their fingers in there.

I understand that my line attenuation is going to limit me to 3000 - 4000kbps instead of the 8000 I'd get if I lived in the exchange but surely there is something more going on here.

All assistance will be greatly appreciated. Stats below:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1152 kbps 352 kbps
Line Attenuation 55 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 7 db 8 db

you could just have a bad line

unfortunately attenuation is a measure of line length, not speed, so you canny be guarranteed anywhere near that much speed.

if you hear line noise you can contact bt to get your line fixed, if not, you are probably stuck with that speed

can you post your full stats?

(for the record, another isp couldnt give you a faster speed)

      Re: 1152kbps... what gives?

There isn't a phone on that line (still using the Virgin line) but have just swapped it over and tried it out. If anything it sounds better on the BT line than the Virgin one.

I saw a post in one of the threads with an approximation of speeds for different attenuation levels and it seemed to suggest I should be looking at the 3,000 to 4,000 kbps range and not the 1,152 I'm currently getting.

Trying to make sense of the more technical threads is proving elusive but I wasn't sure if the 'negotiation' with BT could be at play here or if that's the just the Max/Connect package.

I could only find instructions for getting detailed stats for the V1 Netgear router. Can anyone point towards getting detailed stats for my router?

I'm actually still on my Virgin line at the moment, don't want to use up my Sky download limit with such high connection speeds!

      Re: 1152kbps... what gives?

Have checked that thread previously but as I said it only gives detailed stats for the V1 router, the V2 only has the basic stats that I processed. Am I missing something or is there not a way to get detailed stats?

ignore this, it'll go away - why can't we have a delete post option in the edit function?

      What will go away?

Just ran the speed test on NewsreadeRs sig and got 976 down and 298 up. Does that seem a little skewed toward the uploads?

My post, I repeated what had already been said so came back and tried to delete mine but there's no facility to do it.
