Angry Does sky block sites with heavy usage ?

I've been with sky broadband for about a month after switching from Pipex and I now have a problem with accessing a certain site and i'm convinced that sky have blocked it.

I am a premium member of rapidshare.com but I don't download all that much, probably 500 Mb a week or less. Anyway, today I downloaded quite a bit and all of a sudden my download stopped and I couldn't get to the website, all other websites were ok but I couldn't get to rapidshare.com.
I did a few checks as follows:

1 - Pinged www.rapishare. com and it resolved the IP address and I got a reply.

2 - ran a tracert and that was fine also.

3 - I logged into the portal at work and I could bring up rapishare.com no problem (I made sure it wasn't cached).

The conclusion I came to is that SKY is blocking port 80 to that website because I was using it quite heavily. I am not in breach of the fair use policy and I am not going over my 40Gb limit so they have no reason to do this.

Has anyone else had a problem ? If so is there anything that can be done ?

P.S. I phoned sky's broadband help and I got absolutely nowhere, they tried to tell me that they don't block sites, then I got a call back from a higher tech guy and he admitted that the system can block sites if it suspects it may be used by a virus. Just a load of rubbish to justify the stealth blocking if you ask me.

Sky do not block any sites. If you are having a problem, it is more likely that your IP address has the problem with the Site concerned. Try rebooting your router?

Rapidshare.com at the moment is coming up with HTTP 500 - Internal Server Error.

I know it works as Lost was on there the other day, not that I downloaded it of course. I waited for it to be shown on Sky One tonight in HD

Re: Does sky block sites with heavy usage ?

Thanks for the reply but rebooting my router was the first thing I tried - I thought there may be a problem with DNS forwarding that could be caused by the router, but that didn't work.

I've since got my mate to try it from his pipex connection and it works perfectly, again I remote controlled my works computer and it is fine.

If you are also getting the server error then maybe there is technical problem with SKY not being able to reach it ?

Re: Does sky block sites with heavy usage ?

Like I said, its more likely an issue with their site either blocking or not allowing the 90. IP range. It has happened an awful lot over the last few months.

Sky themselves would not block it. It has to be either a network problem or IP blocking type problem.

Re: Does sky block sites with heavy usage ?

Using OpenDNS and I can't get to Rapidshare with either IE or Firefox. But......with Browzar, which is supposedly/allegedly a "secure" browser - it's not, it's merely a front end for IE according to several sites but I find it useful for some places which don't work with the other two - Rapidshare opens almost instantly. Not a clue, me, pass. And I just d/loaded and ran Opera, which I loathe, and that won't get to Rapidshare either ( which is great because I can uninstall it again). A caching issue?

Re: Does sky block sites with heavy usage ?

Almost certainly not a blocked port.

Rapidshare was probably doing its regular maintenance on Sunday.
I had a complete stoppage in the middle of a largish download, gave it up as a bad job, but it all completed this morning.

As I regularly d/l at 1.5 MB/sec from them, I'm not about to change.

      Regards,

      Max.
