      Connection constantly freezing

Does anyone know why my connection might be constantly freezing? It just stops working - says it's connected still but won't work. I have to unplug and plug back in the router each time. It makes the connection virtually unuseable sometimes. Any ideas?

      Re: Connection constantly freezing

When it freezes, go into the router settings ( http://192.168.0.1/start.htm ) and check if you have an IP address. If you have, click the Show Statistics button and copy and paste them here. If you don't have addresses, click the Sky Test button, note the error code and report this when you phone CS.

If you can't get into the router settings when your connection freezes, then it is probably the connection between your PC and router which is dropping and not the router. Is the green (i) light on when you loose connection?

      Re: Connection constantly freezing

I think it is to do with my noise margin - it drops to about 4.7 when I lose the connection. I just don't know how to rectify this though - I have tried most things.

      Re: Connection constantly freezing

If your noise is dropping there must be interference on your line, either in your internal wiring or the external phone line. The only way you can discover which, is to plug in to your TEST socket and see what happens. With a bit of luck, it will be fault wiring in your house, which is easy to fix.

I think you will have the Version 1 router so you could post your detailed stats, these might show something. Run for as long as you can before taking the stats.

      Re: Connection constantly freezing

I am already in the test socket, and have had external line tested - it's apparantly ok.

      Re: Connection constantly freezing

I am sorry to say but you have a fault on your external line, no matter what Sky or BT say. Some faults are very difficult to find (like that squeaking in your car that disappears as soon as you drive into the garage) but a good engineer will be able to find it. The biggest difficulty is convincing them that it is there in the first place.

Probably the best thing to do is phone Sky and tell them your connection is constantly dropping. Make sure you are pugged in to the TEST socket when you do this as they will require it.They may send you another router, which if it is the new type, may be able to handle the drop in the noise margin. If it doesn't, then they will have to ask BT to do a thorough check of your line, which they are always reluctant to do due to the cost.

      Re: Connection constantly freezing

OK, thank you. I will call them tomorrow. To be honest, I always avoid calling them, because they seem to be so unhelpful, but I guess if I keep on at them, they will do what needs to be done in the end?
