      hi james.
Right, when a NTE-5 is fitted to a sunk box it is not unknown for the front panel of it (the plastic which holds the test socket) to become distorted as it is tightened against the surrounding plaster. This causes a small plastic latch on the inside to release the test socket housing . Now when you push back the faceplate the plug does not always make proper contact with the test socket. and this causes the symptions you are seeing.
If this has happened to your socket, the solution is simple. Unscrew it from the wall and clip the latch back in place. A blob of hot melt glue will stop it happening again.

try unplugging the ethernet cable from your sky hd/+ box and it will speed up, i was getting minimum 4-9k download speed when i got sky hd, but ive just unplugged my ethernet cable from the sky hd box and its back to its usual speed

I take it you mean you unplugged the telephone lead from the sky box to your line since you should not be plugging ethernet into the box? If so you sound like you had an unfiltered Sky tv adaptor plugged into your telephone socket.

By the way Paul you can plug ethernet in my HD box, but it is not enabled, so trying to use it could very well mess up your connection. I think you are probably right about it being the RJ11 cable, though even with a good filter, some Sky boxes give problems.
