      Hi James,

if you have the white netgear router, please post detailed stats, instructions below:
      Mognut’s Utility
Go to the utility web site: Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.3.
Click the “Get” detailed modem stats button and click “OK”.
Enter the router login user name and password.
At the next screen, click the back button on your browser.
      Click the “Download” netgear.cfg button.
What you do next depends on your operating system. On Windows XP, click the “Save” button to save the file to your hard disk. (If you click “Open”, you may find that the file association is one that doesn’t handle carriage returns the same way as the router, hence the reason for saying “Save”.)
Open the file in WordPad (not notepad).

      Re: supidly slow internet!

      ^^ thanks James,

those stats are pretty bad, in the long list of things we can do, the first would be to try the "test" socket behind the faceplate of your master socket
      See first link in my

if you do have a test socket, please do a comparison set of stats from there with just the router plugged in (with supplied filter)

we can then move on from there

(please also re-boot router to clear last stats)

      Re: supidly slow internet!

It looks like your internal wiring may be the problem.

have a look in the cabling and faceplate forum for tips on how to improve. (you may want to look for bits about the ring wire, as there is a good chance its your problem)

      Hi James.
This may sound a stupid question, but please bear with me. Is your master socket fitted to a surface box or is it fitted to one sunk in the wall?.

      Re: supidly slow internet!

      ^^ thats good

but Bt always connect the "ring" wire, which has been the cause of problems for many users.
the ring wire is not needed as the filters do what the ring wire did (not a very good explanation, there is better in the cabling and face plate forum)
the ring wire (if it was your problem) acts like an ariel picking up radio waves which interfere with the ADSL signal and introduces Noise on the line, this noise can genereate errors which slow down your connection

see how it goes for a while. and let us know
