      Soooooo Slooooow! HELP!

I am am the Sky midi package. The exchange has been local loop enabled for sky but I have not yet upgraded.

Anyway, my connection is really slow. I just ran the speed tester and it reported:
      Download 72kbps
      Upload 18Kbps

Not good is it. I originally used the crappy 834gt router sky supplied but it kept crashing when connecting with multiple wireless devices. So I cracked it and put the netgear software, and still no change.

Instead I implemented an old 834g router I had. This has been working successfully for the past 6 months at least. Now all of a sudden I have had this major downturn in speed on what was previously an 8MB line. I have now switched back to the sky router, but still no better, probably worse.

Can anybody offer any advice, it is driving me crazy.

Not until you provide more info:

      • post your router stats (attenuation, sync and noise margin)
      • tell us how you're connected to the router i.e. wired or wireless

Also, if you "have not yet upgraded" which package are you on - you start by saying you're on Mid

What service are you on? I would find it strange if you are still on Connect as your profile and the fact you mention you have not been upgraded indicates. Your exchange was enabled on 04/03/2007 and even the way Sky drag their feet at times, surely they have upgraded you by now.

Post your detailed stats and someone may be able to point you in the right direction.

I would also recommend switching back to the Sky FW asap.

      Re: Soooooo Slooooow! HELP!

Thanks for your replies so far guys.

To answer your questions so far, I am on the Sky Connect midi package. They have not upgraded my account to local loop yet.

I am connected to the router wirelessly. On the sky router I find thaqt if more than 2 devices are connected it dies anyway, thats why I cracked the firmware and ultimately used a different router.

OK, so here are the stats for the non sky router

      System Up Time 17:09:43
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 3664759 3446275 0 38304 33776 16:53:08
      LAN 10M/100M 71003 0 0 95 0 17:09:39
      WLAN 54M 3511503 4051347 0 36229 41643 17:09:28

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8160 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 19 db 6.5 db
Noise Margin 13 db 14 db

AND THESE ARE THE SKY ONES

      System Up Time 00:01:06
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 36 29 0 285 864 00:00:10
      LAN 10M/100M 315 0 0 1238 0 00:01:03
      WLAN 54M 574 548 0 3543 1797 00:00:58

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 19.0 db 13.5 db
Noise Margin 14.7 db 13.0 db

How come you advise switching back to the sky firmware? What is it that they do differently to everybody else?

I suspect you may need more stats than these. Please advise if you do.

      Re: Soooooo Slooooow! HELP!

Firstly, your upload speed indicates that you are on Sky Mid, not Connect.

I advise putting back the FW so that it will accept the new Sky FW which is due to be released any day now. (How long have we been saying that)

You should really post your Detailed stats, follow the link below.

      Re: Soooooo Slooooow! HELP!

Have you tried connecting wired? If the speed issue has occurred recently you may find a neighbour has got a new wireless device and it is causing interference.

      Re: Soooooo Slooooow! HELP!

Whoops!!!! I missed the wireless connection bit. On the face of it, with your stats, you should have a wired speed of 100 times what you are getting. Try wired for a start.

      Re: Soooooo Slooooow! HELP!

I will reflash the sky firmware. Is that available to download anywhere?

Since I reconnected the sky router again this morning the internet connection has been ok. Buit it usually goes to rats $h1t within 24 hrs. Apparently other people in the area have been complaining about their speeds too. Not just sky users either.

So, if I can get hold of the sky firmware, I will flash that and then wait to see what happens.

With regard to my connection I think I might have confused things....
I am on the sky Mid package, but not the local loop unbundled connection as yet. Should I phone Sky and see if they will transfer me?

There is only LLU or connect so you are definitely on LLU.
