you've been capped so you should get around 2Mbps but not a lot more with that attenuation im afraid

Re: Help please, less than a meg

you have a high noise margin, which would lead me to think you have a a fair amount of noise on your line (anywhere from your telephone socket back to the exchange)
have you had problems with drop outs or no connection problems ?

Re: Help please, less than a meg

Would the high noise margin not be due to the cap ?
@wardog - i'm afraid with that att you would be in the same boat whatever isp you chose, maybe a move to mid or base would be a better move ?

yep, was just wondering if OP was having problems and had contacted sky (who then capped him)

Didnt mean to sound like i was questioning you, I just find it difficult to spot at what level a high noise margin is caused by the cap

Re: Help please, less than a meg

^^^Not a problem, i often get things wrong (you should see some of the early posts i had on the forum)

as to the cap and Noise margin i'm not sure. i had been working on the fact that unless you had a super good line, your router would sync at the best speed with a noise margin of 6.9, allowing for fluctuating line conditions this may go up and down by a few db but should not be that high.
saying that if you have a very bad line you may sync very low and as line conditions improve your nm would go up

Re: Help please, less than a meg

thats about right...if the line would only sync at 1Mbps with such a high SNR then it must be a cap - or something on the line not filtered which is stopping it...
