thing is though he can get more - and quite comfortably too...just cause the attenuation is the same doesnt mean it actually is...63 is the upper limit so whilst it might read 63 it can be higher in real life...

i reckon 2Mbps easy easily attainable, possibly 2.5Mbps, but without trying we'll never know...

ok, yes many disconnects only just got back connected after about 9 hours, anyone know why my line ATT is so high? i know the exchange is only about a mile and half away. also any surrgestions on what to do? I've been through all the nonsense with sky i.e. checking all the cables, trying the test socket. the BB is the only thing connected (and the phone off course) sky keep telling me they are working on gettongmy speed up and keep promising call backs.

      Think of it like this.
      (1) You have a long line and high attenuation. No matter what Sky say BT are not going to change your line for free.
      so accept it.
      (2) Get a faceplate filter and put your router close to the master socket, and connect router to filter with as short a cable as you can, You can get 0.5meter ones if that would do.
      (3) If you can for get wireless and connect Via cable or mains network device.

Well it's not so simple as that.
Assuming that sky will pass this to BT (BT will not talk to you, as for BB you are not there customer). First they would want to be sure you had done all you could at your end to get the best from your line.
The next stage would be to test the line fully. If there is no fault ( and bt do not accept that slow speed is a fault) then the cost would fall to you.
To get BT/Openreach to lay a new line by a shorter route to your exchange you would have to be a comercial customer. The cost of this is anyones guess but the last one in my area took 9 months of planning and cost 50+k.

      Get Satellite BB

Re: Help please, less than a meg

it won't go to BT just cause you want it 'a bit faster' - you're gonna have to move if speed is that important. best you'll see by anyone bar cable is around 2Mbps...

      sorry...
