sagem router - will all sky customers receive one?

because of all the trouble i've had with the netgear router i have used my speedtouch router for the last few months and the service has been excellent i am now worried though because one person has been disconnected for using a 3rd party router.

as explained in another post i am unable to use the netgear router due to the slow wireless d/l's and unstableness.

is there anyway that sky would send out a sagem one (if its any better) as that would probably stop a lot of people using their own router if this one is better than the netgear router

The V1 firmware update should improve things considerably, although it probably won't change wireless behaviour very much.

That said, I'm personally a little sceptical about people's assertions that one wireless router does wireless networking a lot better than another wireless router. At the end of the day, they all work to the same specs with the same limitations on power output. Sure, there are different aerials and some are rated higher than others, but the differences aren't that big.

There may be some exceptions, but I would normally expect that the reason one router might seem to perform better than another is most likely down to different default configurations and things like aerial orientation - things like that.

Due to the v1 not being able to cope very well in our house due to it being made of concrete, I use a belkin range extender, it sits downstairs and reinforces the wireless signal there.

I have to doubt that one person could be unlucky enough to receive 5 faulty routers. I think it is obvious something else is wrong and Sky are just going on as normal, throwing good money after bad, as the saying goes.

Some agents just do not use common sense and blindly send out router after router
Oh and you had better start hoping that Sky does not send you the labels to send the routers back as you may be paying for what you open or do not return

Re: sagem router - will all sky customers receive one?

They may have changed their procedure, but when I received a replacement router there was a freepost label enclosed for returning the faulty one. I later realized that there was also a label with the original router for its return in case of failure. Rather strange that some say they did not get a label and others did. I am still waiting on its receipt being acknowledged by Sky. After nearly 2 years, I don't think I will get it now.

Re: sagem router - will all sky customers receive one?

Sky can be a little odd when it comes to routers.
My first router, a sagem, had a damaged RJ11 socket so I phoned Sky for a replacement. In the meantime, I fixed the sagem and was happy with it, so when the replacement arrived (white netgear) I returned it.
In May I received a letter and a freepost sticker asking for the router I no longer required to be returned, so I returned the letter and sticked, with a copy of proof of posting, explaning I had returned the router already.

A week ago another router turned up, and yesterday another letter and sticker, so I have returned this router as well.
If they send me a V2 router, I might be tempted to keep it

Re: sagem router - will all sky customers receive one?

Since the new firmware was released there is nothing wrong with the V1 router, I am convinced it is a better piece of kit than the V2 ones. If they send you another Brian, hang on to it. As long as you hang on to it, you can always send it or the other one back if they demand it.

O.k then, we will see what happens. Given the choice I think I would use my Speedtouch 546v6 which I have always found to be a lovely bit of kit, But if I get another V1 I'll give it a go.
