An excellent point, and one I forgot to mention, which shows that the issue isn't DNS related and is, as you say, probably port 80 problems.

I've already sent them an email warning them that Sky Broadband in the UK seems to have issues with connecting to their servers. I highlighted the fact that Sky force an "Interal Server Error 500" page on the user which would make it appear that Rapidshare.com is at fault, and that this was extremely bad business practice as they are casting the blame on an innocent company. I'd urge all of you to email them, too: support [at] rapidshare.com.

Yes, thankfully it has been OK. Still, I'm not looking forward to the next time!

if sky are able to do this, would it not be the end for illegal sites ? all isp's would have no problem banning ang site as soon as it came up (not saying rapidshare is illegal)

      Re: Sky Block rapidshare.com?

Well first, lets say thank you to you for adding more spam to Rapidshares email account, I'm sure they will love you for that.

I've never had a problem getting on to rapidshare, on the very few times map files for games have been stored on there, whilst I've been on sky.

There are known issues that sky and their DNS hasn't always been the best, and by painting sky to be the bad guys here, you could in theory be opening yourself up to action by sky.

I'm sure you have tried changing the DNS to openDNS and testing that, or forcing a IP change on your router to test the IP - but hey, I'm sure you would have done that before slagging off a company

      Re: Sky Block rapidshare.com?

I have amended the email address in the post to help stop them getting bombarded with spam.

As for trying to convince you that Sky are not blocking this, I give up. Its absolutely pointless.

If Sky wanted to block this, there are far easier ways, than forcing an error 500 page, which is the website's server fault. Sky could just traffic limit it if it was that much of a problem.

The 500 Internal Server Error is a "server-side" error, meaning the problem is not with your PC or Internet connection but instead is a problem with the web site's server.

      Re: Sky Block rapidshare.com?

DAMN this is the most annoying thing ever I cannot access Rapidshare at the moment and funnily enough I go next door and use 'Orange Broadband' and WOW, it connects.

Simple, this IS sky doing this and it's VERY annoying.

      Re: Sky Block rapidshare.com?

      Working fine for me here.

      Try

      RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting

      RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting

      https://www.rapidshare.com

      https://rapidshare.com

If Sky were blocking this or as people have suggested, fixed it so it shows an error 500 page, everyone on Sky would have the issue.

      Re: Sky Block rapidshare.com?

So what's your suggestion then, why is this happening? It can't be rapidshare, because I have an ip that connects directly and this doesn't work here, but it does next door

And it is working again now :/

      Re: Sky Block rapidshare.com?

I don't know if it will make a difference, but you could try using OpenDns settings?

      Re: Sky Block rapidshare.com?

I hav tried using OpenDNS it makes no difference

But it seems to be working again now, this happens almost every other night, sometimes every night.

I've tried resetting the router, restarting my PC, using OpenDNS, using the Direct IP (Which USED to work but no longer does)

Nothing fixes it, I have to wait for it to come back

      Re: Sky Block rapidshare.com?

are you sure you havent modified your hosts file or something?
      c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
copy and paste that here, or check yourself. there should be an entry saying localhost 127.0.0.1 and that is it.

      also, go start->run->cmd

      tracert rapidshare.com

      and post it up
