Just tried the site and it works in firefox fine. Have tried at my place of work and it works. (Very much plugged straight into the easynet network) so not a block at skys end. More of a sorry to say bad site issue.

      Re: Sky Block rapidshare.com?

If easynet is part of the sky network then don't believe a word sky say.......They DO employ techniques for cutting down on their network traffic even though they swear blue they don't. The most recent ones I have uncovered are a combination of DNS poisoning and packet shaping, yesterday I was getting an 83% loss from a node in their bricklane infrastructure in London, and intermitantly getting a http 500 error page which was being dished out by DNS cache on a SKY node. It is not a real 500 error message simply a page made to replace rapidshare.com and used with packet shaping looks like a faulty page. When this occurs Bt and BE internet connections that I have tested work fine.

Here is the proof that they employ packet shaping, the 2 images below is the result of todays problems i'm getting a 50% packet loss on their network only to rapidshare, the same node does not give any loss to any other site.

Can anyone comment on the above posts, please? It's a very serious issue if Sky are claiming one thing but doing the other, especially with regards to packet shaping etc.

I have been using rapidshare for the best part of the last 8 months. Sky 100% does traffic shape and they do mention this in their terms and cons. What the users are reporting is exactly correct.
If lots of users on the easynet network are downloading from Rapidshare or there is high network traffic:

      1) Users get the HTTP Error 500(Its happened to me countless times)
      2) Go on another connection, or go through a proxy, Rapidshare will work totally fine)
      3) When network load is reduced, the access is reduced.

So basically you just have to wait, as the traffic shaping is removed.

      Re: Sky Block rapidshare.com?

Assuming it's intentional, it's absolutely disgraceful (disgusting, even) that Sky/Easynet force an "Internal Server Error 500" message on users trying to access Rapidshare. This reduces Rapidshare's credibility as a business and makes users who don't know any better think that Rapidshare just has lots of server problems, when in reality it's just Sky/Easynet using some seriously unscrupulous business practices!

The stupid question: can anything be done?

If you are sharing files legally, you could try YouSendit as has already been mentioned. If you are looking for illegal files, I don't think Sky, or any other ISP, will be interested in your complaint.

It just shows that the particular router in question is prioritising what it's doing. I.E. Routing instead of replying to ICMP requests. Load of routers on the Sky/Easynet network do it, it's done to ensure a BETTER service for the data transmitted accross it, not a worse one.

The routes may have changed temporarily because of a outage somewhere, it's how the Internet works. If it was happening regularly then that might be a different matter.

      Re: Sky Block rapidshare.com?

Sky 100% does traffic shape and they do mention this in their terms and cons.
Sorry to be blunt, but I asked this question to someone I know at Sky / Easynet, and I would assume that the answer was totally unofficial and 100% truthful. (as has everything else this person has told me in the past)

On the LLU packages, Sky traffic shape JACK ****

Although in the eyes of the forum I should get told off for activating the swear filter, it gets my point across. (Watches for the infraction points to be issued now)

Rapidshare should be banned imho and from what I have heard many prople are trying to sort this out for the illegal files to be stopped being shared.

Rapidshare profiteers from hosting illegal material, not even the best torrent sites do that.
