Sky could use Vendor ID checking to see if you are using their router or not.

Sorry to hear the bad news. I hope it is not the start of the implementation or adherence to the T and C's when the V1 router is still not updated to the latest Firmware for stability for many users.

I guess Sky are comparing the MAC address of the router they supplied with the MAC address of the Router in use
That wouldn't seem to be the case, he says he was using the Sky router, flashing the router would not have changed it's MAC address. Unless their records showed that he had been using a rouge router and used that reason to cut him off?

Re: Used another router sky cut me off :/

I've just had a look at the MAC address of devices on my laptop. Aftraid it only lists items physically in the laptop and those attached by USB. I can't manage (at this point) to access the MAC address of the router over an ethernet link. And of course I'd need to change the ADSL Port MAC address rather than the LAN MAC address. Rather more complicated than I'd initially thought.

Also explain why you had to use another router, IE the ones they supply never work.
And if they want to pull out there terms and condition bull**** why dont you tell them that they are supplying people with faulty hardware/firmware, this can be proven pretty easly just by looking on this forum alone.
but there were no benifits using his own router ? i take that to mean there was no difference in performance,

Re: Used another router sky cut me off :/

Hi guys click's m8 here he sent me a e-mail through his phone and told me to post it here as follows below.

After almost 2 hours on the phone, they have agreed to put my broadband back on Although it's not all a happy story it took me 50 mins to explain until i got to someone who new what they were talking about apparently i had exceeded my maximum fare usage, but a technical mistake changed it to i had broken the policy by using another router :/ I kept my calm until they said i would have to wait 5 working days for them to put the broadband back on, oh and they were still going to charge me as well, luckily i kept my calm and found someone who had some sense. Anyways see you all in 5 days or more. Not a very happy chappy. oh and im being charged for another router how fun.
