Re: Used another router sky cut me off :/

Section d para 3, i think it is, only states that, 'you can only access sky broadband from your router'. it makes no mention of the router they supplied.
The section in question actually reads-
(d)Sky Broadband must only be accessed via your Wireless Router. Your Wireless Router is not supplied as being capable of being used to access any other Internet service.

You will note the use of Caps in describing the Wireless Router, it has been pointed out previously that using Caps in a legal document means it is referring to a specific item to distinguish it from a general item. In this case it is to make clear that the router referred to is the Wireless Router supplied by Sky. This is further emphasised by the second sentence.

As has been stated already, give it a go but a legal challenge would be very expensive, even for a Fire God

If Sky are going to penalise you for trying to get their shoddy service working by using your own equipment you paid for then just cancel all their services. They don't deserve customers with the way they treat them. Any other broadband company would be hapy for you to try and resolve your own problems. From what I've read, for the most part it seems people end up trying to swap the modems because of the terrible speeds and disconnections, and then not only do they find it's no better with their own, but they also get kicked off the service.

but they also get kicked off the service.
I don't think that there has been one reported case of that to date.

Although I tend to agree, if the service works with your own router and not the Sky one, then a compromise should be sought.

I've heard nothing but bad news about their own routers. If you do get kicked off the service then I would personally recommend Tiscali. Their wireless routers are pretty much flawless and although the TV is not quite the quality of Sky, you do get a hell of a lot of on-demand services which Sky is obviously missing.

This is not bourne out by a recent survey by the Computer Shopper. Sky rate very highly with 5 stars and have higher than average download speeds. They were let down by Technical Support scoring only 50% but as the avarage was 66%, not as bad as it could be. Several suppliers scored under 50 for this, including Tiscali with 45%. Tiscali scored 4 stars overall. Winners were O2 Premium and Nildram Lite, both with 5 Stars.

That's all well and good but if you're one of the ones who's service isn't working properly and you find you can get much faster speeds and a much better service with your own equipment then it's tough luck.
