If I was to leave sky early.

Hi there folks. In view of the resent problems sky have been having with ping times and them taking so long to fix them (I wish they would hurry up) I may be looking to move on. I'm not saying I will but it depends on how long sky take to fix this. Now since i'm just a month or so into my contract I'm expecting to have to pay off the remainder of my contract (pennies really) but will they be expecting anything extra & will I have any problems migrating if I chose to?

      Cheers.

Don't know what sky would charge, but you need to watch out for charges if you go from LLU to Non-LLU.

Have you tried using the kana form? Usually you would get a result using that.

IF its purely because gaming has got bad, then you'll have to pay out your existing contract...

Re: If I was to leave sky early.

I wouldnt pay them a penny, why should you pay for an unstable service? i can understand hi pings of maybe 70 - 80 but between 200 - 400 is a joke.
Just dont mention gaming when you phone up.
o2 broadband are doing great deals at the moment and there upload speed is much better than skys......they are not in my area yet though

but Sky was never aimed at the gaming market - everyone's moved cause its cheap. if web browsing is working fine then Sky have provided exactly what was offered at point of sale and if you wanna get out of it you have to pay...simple as

Re: If I was to leave sky early.

I don't actually know if that is the case, Sky are supplying an internet connection and nowhere when I signed up was it said that Sky BB was for web surfing only and none of the adverts on the TV the last year have said that they are all pushing "super fast broadband".

Under the goods and services act it doesn't matter how much a service is (even if it's free) has to provide you with a fully working service so when a compamy use an excuse such as "you get what you pay for" they are completely in the wrong.

Sure Sky say that they don't support gaming, p2p, pop mail clients etc. but I see that as they won't give you any technical help not that you shouldn't be running any of this on your line.

And considering that Sky have kept on emailing me about their new Sky Anytime on PC, so Sky are trying to get me to use a service which they themselves say they don't support.

What with games such as World of Warcraft now hitting 10 million plus active accounts worldwide and over 20 million internet connected games consoles, it's very short sighted of sky just to claim "it's for surfing only", if that is the case they need to put that somewhere on the adverts and when people sign up they need to be told explicity otherwise Sky could be at fault for not being clear enough at point of sale.

Re: If I was to leave sky early.

Sky are not stupid, they reduced pings for gamers because that is what the gamers needed to use the Broadband effectively, and I assume as an attempt to lower the negative public feelings / comments. As for Sky providing a Web Browsing service only, I also disagree.

Sky want to start delivering Video on Demand, VOIP (possibly as well) and so a Browsing Service only just would not cut it. Hence the reasons why Sky have you on Interleaved. This format is ideal for these applications.

Maybe Sky did not think that their service would be as popular, although I for one have always found what I pay for, for so little exceptional. Maybe its time for Sky to either rejig their prices or bite the bullet and give in to growing demands from people's Internet usage.

Re: If I was to leave sky early.

well then call it oversight - however you look at it Sky BB's target market were people who weren't tec-savvy and wanted an easy out-the-box service...IF gaming was supported properly then the max delay changes would've been implemented from the start...

its just an exchange issue and tbh, Sky have more pressing issues rather than pleasing a few hundred customers who cant play a game - like those with no connection at all!!

      Totally 100% agree.

like those with no connection at all!!
      Totally 100% agree.

But Sky should also treat any customer with an issue evenly. Not saying they are not, but sometimes it would appear that Sky do not effectively communicate their instructions / procedures. Not a fault of their staff, but the way they do things. As an example, test calls were made regarding the routers, and what would happen if it broke down or failed out of warranty.

      The results were:

      1) We would not replace it

      2) Yes, we would replace it

Not any one member of staffs fault as all they can do is act on the information available to them.

As for the pings for gamers, that was indeed a shrewd move by Sky and proved beyond doubt, that they can adapt.
