Unplug everything from the line, plug a phone in, if no dial tone then it's a definate fault (check with second phone if possible). Has your master socket got a physical split in the plate running left to right just above the screws?

Seconf phone direct to master socket, even in test socket same result
I've logged a probelm on BT's website and them apparenlty gonna call me on my mobile.

Could u explain what u mean by pyshical split.
From out side the wire come throught wall into a tiny white box there are two wires (range and blue connected) that cable runs direct to the only Master socket in the house, The wires are connected to 3&5 I believe. Sorry its early :P

Think he a bit more of an issue than jut capping lol.
The question about the split at the socket was just me trying to see if you had a test socket, if you plug just a phone (no filter) in to the test socket what happens? Do you get dial tone etc?

i know that, but he has been capped - that much is obvious...unless for some reason the line fault has mucked the line up and its capping itself (which does happen, e.g. one socket isn't filtered correctly)

Still waiting for a response from BT ,its past the 2hr call back time so im going phone from a friends house asap, yeah it seems I have been capped dramatically , also the line attention has rose from 20-30 its so weird that the interet is working though. And a phone direct to the line still has no dial tone

its prob the pstn side affecting it then - hopefully once resolved speed should go back up!

Most likely, all he needs to do is get BT to actually go and fix it now.

Re: 16mB to 8 overnight and worse!

      Hi,

We had a similair problem a couple months ago. The phone line was dead and noticed my sync speed had drpped really low on my router. I had a search and found that the phone needs to run on 2 wires to work, but ADSL will work off 1 but wont work very well. Hence the drop in speed. With your phone not working, this might be the same problem.
