      LLU Ipstream and Datastream,Im confused

Sorry it's a long one, my knowledge of broadband and behind the scenes is limited and I'm not very sure on what all the LLU's datastreams etc mean but I do know they can affect your internet connections so please bear with me.

I have a connection date for Tues 5th Feb 08 for sky broadband 8 mb mid package. According to the online checker which checks what your line is capable of it says up to 8 mb or 16mb for max package, i chose 8 mb mid , 6.5mb is what I was getting at Pipex.
The last few days I have been at 1.3mb with Pipex (reduced probably cos they went in a huff as I asked for my mac code)and it's driving me nuts, according to Pipex it's maintenance at the exchange, another advisor says maintenance within Pipex..who am i to believe. Anyways I'll be shot of them come Tuesday.

Problem is someone I know is having a similar problem, same isp. They asked for their mac code cos they were migrating, he was as apparently moved to a datastream pipe giving him slow speeds like myself, assuming it was a IPstream he was on before cos he was getting 8 mb speeds.

I'm told that if my new provider (Sky) have LLU'd my exchange (which they have) then I will probably be on datastream with Sky too. Will this result in a up to 2mb download speed ? this is my exchange here ---> Samknows - ESNEW exchange I need to find out before my 10 days is up to change my mind and go elsewhere, 2 mb internet speed is no use to me.

If you got to the end of my ramblings thanks for taking the time to read it

      Cheers

IPStream and DataStream are both BT services which handle the "backhaul" - the flow of data between your local telephone exchange and your ISP - although in slightly different ways. On an LLU'd line, however, your ISP is responsible for the backhaul, so it's neither DataStream nor IPStream.

You should end up getting a similar speed to the one you originally got with Pipex.

data stream is just adsl max repackaged and sold to isps at a wholesale price. llu is local loop unbundled and has the isps equipment in a part of the exchange known as the OLO (other licensed operators) room this bypasses BTs backhaul
