      Sky Mid ADSL2+?

At the moment we're with Be*/O2 ADSL2 broadband up to 24mbps but with our line can only get just over 8mbps on their LLU connection. The question is, does Sky, who have our local exchange enabled for LLU, use ADSL2+ to supply the Mid package up to 8mbps? We ask because for an ADSL connection (non-LLU) Sandcows says 4mbps but with Be*/O2 on LLU we get 8mbps. If we changed to Sky we would hope for the same connection rate.

If you subscribe to Sky Broadband Mid, then you will be put on G.DMT. Your connection speed may fall slightly, but I doubt it'll drop down to 4Mbit/sec.

What type of router are you using? Depending on the router, there may be a way to force the router to use G.DMT and that would give you an exact indication of the speed you'll get on Broadband Mid.

No they don't they use their own "special" G.DMT. But don't worry - it performs just as well as ADSL2+ up to about 8meg.

      Re: Sky Mid ADSL2+?

Thank you James67 and Saturday for the fast reply. We are using a Netgear DG834GT with the LAN (not wireless) from the main BT socket with ADSLWorld faceplate. So it is as good as it gets from our wire. Please let us know more about the G.DMT thing. Imagine it should work with the Netgear as we think that is what Sky supplies. We have used the DMT tool on the box (BeBox) supplied by Be*/O2. Is the G.DMT a version for the Netgear router?

A DG834GT? All you need to do is go to the Mognut's Utility Page, change the Router IP Address to your router's address (it's usually either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1), then where it says "Select G.DMT Mode", click the Select button. It'll ask for your router username and password, normally admin and admin, then display some gibberish about something or other not being found. Ignore than and just press the back button.

You router will drop the connection and reconnect using G.DMT. Go to the router's configuration pages (either at http://192.168.0.1/ or http://192.168.1.1/) and you should see the connection speed that you'll get with Sky Broadband Mid.

To reset the router, you can just unplug the power for a few seconds, then plug it back in, and your router will be back in its ADSL2+ mode.

It'll be interesting to see what results you get.

      Re: Sky Mid ADSL2+?

Thank you James67 for the above. We have now done this test with these results -
Connection Speed 3808 kbps 1316 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.0 db 23.0 db
Noise Margin 29.1 db 3.0 db
Speed does not look good although the Noise Margin of 29.1db coulfd be taken down to give a higher download speed? Look forward to comments. By the way our Be* connection reads at the moment -
Connection Speed 11056 kbps 1382 kbps
Line Attenuation 42.0 db 23.3 db
Noise Margin 4.3 db 3.7 db
although this will drop down to settle around 9.1kbps.

      Re: Sky Mid ADSL2+?

Sky don't put Mid package on ADSL2+ so really you only need to know what speed you're get and i reckon the full 8Mbps should be easy...
