      Skype may be the culprit!

a couple of days ago i was doing research as to why my internet connection kept getting lost.....at first i was thinking it was a vista/sky router problem but i also suspected skype had something to do with it....then i read about how skype is used as a supernode and also how skypes activities can sometimes be mistaken as port scanning by routers/firewalls....ive stopped skype acting as a supernode, and touch wood ive not had any problems with connection since, even my newsgroup "throttling" seems to have stopped....im gonna keep an eye on things, but this is the longest ive had without the need to reboot the router or change port in newsleecher for months

ill prolly be totally wrong and as soon as i post this ill loose my connection and need to change port in leecher

Maybe, for continuity, you should have posted this in your 'Port Throttling' thread? It could useful for other users

Well I have created a reg file to disable it as I noticed the other night that the line was beginning to lag etc. Need to test it out yet and see what effect it will have.

If all goes well though I will post it (permission pending) with a quick summary of what to do.

      Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesSkype]
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesSkypePhone]
      “DisableSupernode”=dword:00000001

      is it that reg file?

      Not too far off.

      It should be

      Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Skype]
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Skype\Phone]
      "DisableSupernode"=dword:00000001

Also when you create this file it HAS TO BE NAMED

      NoSuperNode.reg

Ah and I forgot to mention as well. It has worked an absolute treat for me.

No lagging, no broken up convos, and the most important part. NO SLOWING OF THE NET.

yuor right thats what i meant - does it really matter what the .reg file is called, i was always under the impression the name was purely to remind u whats inside the .reg file and the contents was the important bit?
