[RESOLVED] Help pls - Speeds dropping and fast

      PROBLEM RESOLVED NOW

      Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can help me. I signed up with Sky in April 2007. I got the mid 8MB package and when it arrived, speeds were good and stable at around 6.5MB. Was happy with that with how far I live from the exchange etc.

I checked a month or so ago and everything was at 6.5MB still. All was OK.

A few days ago I checked and it was at 3.3MB I thought it might be something to do with congestion etc. I have rebooted router etc. Then just left it. Today it's at this...

      Date 15/01/08 20:34:09
      Speed Down 1372.18 Kbps ( 1.3 Mbps )
      Speed Up 342.59 Kbps ( 0.3 Mbps )
I'm really not happy with that speed at all. Router (I'm using a Linksys router, WAG54GS) stats are...

      Status: Up
      Downstream Rate: 8096 Kbps
      Upstream Rate: 416 Kbps
      Cisco Logo

      PVC Connection

      Encapsulation: RFC 2364 PPPoA
      DSL Modulation Mode: MultiMode
      Multiplexing: VC
      Qos: UBR
      Pcr Rate:
      Scr Rate:
      Autodetect: Enable
      VPI: 0
      VCI: 38
      Enable: 1
      PVC Status: Up
I don't know how to look on there for any noise on the line on my router etc. I do download some stuff but nothing much. This month would be an absolute max of 10GB if that!

I looked on this forum line check and postcode check and says I can accept 5MB, although I think that is a little off as I had a lovely 6.5MB connection for so long. I just want that back as 1.3MB is pants. Pages loading slow now and I look at a lot of photography photos which now takes a longggg time compared to what it did before.

I'm on a mac so can't use the TCP/IP software recommended on here. However, I did use it on husbands PC and made no difference anyway. Anything I can do my end? If not, what do I say to Sky?

Yes. But have always been wireless (even at the 6.5MB speed). Nothing has changed, well apart from the speed issue.

Perhaps a neighbour has got a new wireless router and it's interfering with your router. It's certainly worth trying different channel numbers.

and also trying your connection wired would rule it out too...

Yes, if I am reading your router stats right you are connected with the exchange at 8096 down and 416 up which is the maximum for the mid package so it must be an issue between the router and your PC.

Have you tried the Sky router you were supplied with, to rule out a problem with the router?

Most of my neighbours are old folks. I'll change channel in a mo and test that.

I'll try that in a mo also via Ethernet.

Yep. It has literally always been that speed up and down no matter how many times I reboot router etc.

Anyway brb while I do tests.

Re: Help pls - Speeds dropping and fast :(

OK test with Ethernet connected to Linksys.

      Speed test result...

      Speed Down 1252.18 Kbps ( 1.2 Mbps )
      Speed Up 343.99 Kbps ( 0.3 Mbps )
I even rebooted Linksys again and changed mico filter just in case. Router still reporting same good speeds as I posted in post #1.

Wil try netgear now connected to Ethernet then Wireless.....
