yes currently with the hard wired routers iam only using one at a time cus not everybody always using the net at once. only the one up the stairs is able to connect with my laptop i hope when the new sagem is up and running hopefully renew the master socket which we have a spare and remove the extension up the stairs + remove the cordless phones for hard wired . am i heading in the right direction my father still thinks the line has been capped and is the policy of bt to do that to cut down on customer complaints currently he is still a bt employee but thinks the company is finished 41yrs service and hates the place.

      Re: need expert opinion

Your broadband connection has definitely been capped. Normally, an ADSL modem or router will negotiate a speed that gets a noise margin of about 7dB. Yours is 15dB so that indicates that the modem is being forced to synchronise at a lower speed that it otherwise would - i.e., your speed has been capped.

      Re: need expert opinion

Thats right. I have an Orange Livebox, which came free with my broadband with an Orange Fone. I have this connected to the wall, with DHCP activated, wireless deactivated and have altered the IP settings to avoid clashes. I then have a Netgear attached to the livebox to act as a router, to give me wireless and cabled access. DHCP deactivated.

The Only reason i use the livebox is because of the internet fone connected to the livebox, this can call any landline worldwide FOC and also all orange mobiles foc. Saves me a fortune.

Have you tried the Official BT Tester?

Never mind, next week you may have a 5Mb+ connection from Sky

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Be careful, as you might create an aerial which would pick up more interference. There should not be any need to twist wires together.

Your line has been set to a profile of 3000, maybe due to noise, but as you have a bit of noise margin to spare, the Sky connection should sync a bit higher. Keep your fingers crossed and maybe you could be looking at 5 or 6 Mb.
