Exclamation I am new to sky and on connect is 288 kbps u/s and d/s normal?

I have been connected to sky connect since 8th jan ,since then my router stats havent changed they have been as follows

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 1513 1339 0 0 0 0:05:16
      LAN 8032 8790 0 0 0 0:28:58
      WLAN 4 4 0 0 0 0:28:37
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 288 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.0 db 24.5 db
Noise Margin 30.3 db 31.0 db

sorry if too much has appeared here but Im new to this

Anyway the stats here have remained constant for the past 6 days havent changed at all

I have been in touch with sky ts who advised me this is all my line is capable of when I check on bts wholesale speedchecker it shows the same results

I have went through all the advcie on here(plug into master socket,no extensions etc to no avail still the stats dont budge

having been fed up with the speed I contacted sky again this time I got bit further someone offered to do a one shot test( whatever that is ) to determine if there was anything wrong,it came back negative

after this the kind person at ts got in touch with bt to check the line and after 2 days with the internet turned off (as advised) I got a call back to say that in fact my line will only handle up to 288kps

my question is this are there any other avenues I can explore or is this the best I can expect?

do I need to wait to get connected to skys own exchange(which Im told is in a matter of months(yeah right)

If I went to another isp would it be the same story?

You appear to have a problem with your sync being stuck for some reason. What is happening is the exchange equipment has (probably incorrectly) determined that this is the maximum stable rate your line can support. This could be a mistake or you could have a particularly bad line problem. I suspect the former.

You'll need to persevere with Sky and call again. When you get through to Sky T1 report slow speeds and go through the troubleshooting. You'll eventually get transferred to CST and they hopefully will sort you out. After 10:00 at night would be a good time.

If it is a line problem then yes, unless it is resolved you'll get the same issues with other ISPs that resell BTs ADSL Max.

is it just a coincidence that my connection that was done last week stuck at 288 kbps and I am sure I saw somebody else with the same thing recently?

Re: I am new to sky and on connect is 288 kbps u/s and d/s normal?

Are you sure you're not on the Connect package rather than Mid?
Sometimes, for whatever reason, when Sky places an order for IPStream MAX (Connect up to 8Mb package) they will plonk the customer on 256k/256k package which gives sync speeds of 288k/288k.

You need to find out if you're on the Connect package and exactly what product you've been supplied with if you are*. Other than that, perhaps it's as Saturday says, you've been capped for some reason on the DSLAM (BASE/MID/MAX package only).

*Tier 1 can't help with this, you'll need to speak with either someone in CST with eCo Broadband or Provisioning.

Question Re: I am new to sky and on connect is 288 kbps u/s and d/s normal?

      hi all

ive just signed up to sky bb 8mbps and my connection wont go higher than 288kbps too.
had the bt engineer out this morning and he did fix a previous fault with the line but it's still at 288kbps.
i think thats like 0.2mbps roughly?
      am i right?
if so than what a let down!
glad i found this site it's superb

Are you on Connect? BT/Sky seem to be messing up Connect connections over the last week or two.

Re: I am new to sky and on connect is 288 kbps u/s and d/s normal?

yeah im on connect. thing is phoned sky yesterday and, after testing, the guy says my line can only handle 512kbps.
so it would seem i am well and truly scunnered *sigh*
      just hoping i can cancel!
its a shame though cos i was gonna get a laptop to take advantage of the wireless features.
      damn damn damn!

      cheers!

Don't give up yet! Post the stats from your router and someone will tell you what you can really expect to receive. Unless your attenuation is up in the 70s you should do better than 512.

As I mentioned earlier, there have been some problems with Connect recently, wait till your 10 days are up then pursue the matter.

Re: I am new to sky and on connect is 288 kbps u/s and d/s normal?

hmm, sky also told me that The speed check that was carried out prior to service commencing indicates that the maximum speed your line can handle is 512kbps. As you are still within the 10 day 'training period' we are unable to raise your issue at present. - however my line stats just dont support that low rate, my 10 days is up on sunday...
