Exactly what technical knowledge these guys have is beyond me!

I'm now waiting for a call back from him after he has spoken to CST about it so I only hope he talks to someone who is in the know....

      Winds me right up...

Edit: I take it all back lol... he rang me back after 15 minutes and thanked me for bringing the issue to his attention, told me CST have already put in the request for a regrade and it that it would all be fixed by tomorrow or the next day at the latest. AND he apologised... WTG Sky
see, CST do know what's going on...so long as you can talk to them!!

Hypothetical situation "I am a silver surfer, I am new to broadband and PCs in general and have just been put on Sky's Connect package, it's great, 6 times faster than my old dial up connection. I can't believe how fast it is"

Do CST know about this one? My point is that unless you know better and complain, nothing will be done. Sky should be checking every connection to BT's Max service, they know mistakes have and still are being made. The user should not have to bring it to their notice.

but in the same breath they shouldn't have to chase it in the first place...i agree it should be done but there's no one available to check it all...

well i was told last sunday mine would be fixed by tomorrow, still not fixed yet. I dont understand how some can get theres fixed in a couple of days, while others have to wait a week if the work is not exchange based.

i am patient, but try telling my 16 year old son who wants to play games online, i mean study for his exams.

it all depends who you speak to - but its not a big thing to get fixed...

hopefully you'll be sorted, I wasn't affected by it on my migration...

Re: I am new to sky and on connect is 288 kbps u/s and d/s normal?

      Hi,

I signed up to the mid package and was activated on the 13/02 and have only had upload/download speeds of 128kbps. I have spoken to sky CS (who have been clueless) and been sent a new router, which has not fixed the problem. I am currently awaiting a call back from the 'supervisor'.

      Is this the same problem?

no, you've been capped to test speed...completely different and if you get CST on the phone will be done in 30 secs...

Re: I am new to sky and on connect is 288 kbps u/s and d/s normal?

Ummm i think ive got the same problem, just got sky broadband connect and out of my 10 day period. Run numerous speed test and not acheived a higher speed than 200kpbs.... and my phone dc's my BB when I pick it up. Thought I had an unknown problem till i found you guys!

Was reading this forum (and "samknows") all day at work and have only just run my modem stats now.... saw the magic 288kbps. Heres the stats ive just got

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 288 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 42 db 14.5 db
Noise Margin 17 db 31 db

Maximum line speed everyone is saying i can achieve is 512kpbs but i know for a fact that my nextdoor neighbour is on 2 mb. Is it worth connecting to the engineers test socket to verify or shall i start the ball rolling now with sky?

Re: I am new to sky and on connect is 288 kbps u/s and d/s normal?

Connecting to the Test socket is always a good idea when you phone Sky. It saves having to disconnect to do it, loosing your call and having to call back, get a different agent, have to go through it all again. I could go on but I think you will get what I mean.

The test socket will not make any difference to your connection speed as you are 'capped' at 288, it may make a difference to your noise margin, if it does you have interference from your internal wiring/appliances and will benefit from fixing it. You will have read what to do from earlier posts in this thread, so I will not bore you by telling you again, suffice to say, you must keep at them till they fix it.

With your attenuation and a clear line, you could get 3.5-5Mb.
