Re: I am new to sky and on connect is 288 kbps u/s and d/s normal?

      Hi there.

I also seem to have this same problem. I ordered connect and my connection date is in 4 days time. I can get5 online and my router etc is fine. Stats:

Connection Speed 288 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 6 db 2 db
Noise Margin 31 db 30 db

I called Sky and the nice numpty in CS maintains that it is because my account has not been fully provisioned and I should be patient. I'm thinking that it would be quite a coincidence what with the 288 thing.

My question is, are they talking nonsense or will my speed get better when their system recognises that I am online?

If not I'll start bracing myself for the long arduous phone calls now

      Thanks

      Hi,

First post, so please excuse me if i'm 'hijacking'

I'm also on connect, and initially i had 3Meg download for the first week, now 3weeks into contract i'm on 712kps.

After hours on the the phone they insist that they are supplying me with 4Meg and that its my computer at fault?

My next step is to try and cancel, i'm fed up!!

      ^^^^^^^
You should really start your own thread, this one is concerned with the 288/288, wrong package problem, yours is completely different. So that it does not get 'lost' start another thread and post your stats with it. Please also update your profile, as it says you are on Base.

How is it fixed in 3 days?? Is it not a job at the BT exchange? I was quoted 5 working days by CST on Sunday for mine to be done.

there's no exchange work needed at ALL - its a software upgrade as it were...

example. Sky put the request to BT to regrade the line on Monday, BT do it tuesday, fixed by wed but you then have the 10 day training in period...

      nice and easy...

Re: I am new to sky and on connect is 288 kbps u/s and d/s normal?

      This is a ridiculous situation!

I've just had to explain not only the terms of line attenuation and noise margin to a "technical support manager" but also the system in place whereby sky resell the service from BT.

Exactly what technical knowledge these guys have is beyond me!

I'm now waiting for a call back from him after he has spoken to CST about it so I only hope he talks to someone who is in the know....

      Winds me right up...

Edit: I take it all back lol... he rang me back after 15 minutes and thanked me for bringing the issue to his attention, told me CST have already put in the request for a regrade and it that it would all be fixed by tomorrow or the next day at the latest. AND he apologised... WTG Sky
