      New to Sky Broadband

      Hi all

I've recently moved to Sky after a brief spell with Tiscali (asked for my MAC code on the 2nd day it was that bad)

I'm on connect and my stats are

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 16.0 db 5.5 db
Noise Margin 6.8 db 25.0 db

At present my speed is fluctuating a bit and I hope to have a good 5 meg + connection, which is what I had via Zen before switching to Tiscali.

Any idea how quick it normally takes to settle down (rather than the 10 days quoted)?

Youve got a reasonable 8 meg connection at the moment. The noise margin is a bit low tho - check these two threads for a better explanation and some helpful pointers to improve it

ps as enemy says on connect you need to let the line train for the full 10 days - but theres still some usefull info there for when it has

8192Kbps is the highest sync speed u can get and 448 u/s is the highest u can get, speed tests are not tht accurate it will depend on how the test routes an what server ur goin to they have no bearing on ur actuall speed and im guessing u didnt do a netstat before u ran the speed tests to make sure there was nothing using ur band width? and the test would route differently almost everytime u do it! u realy want to see wat speed ur getting close everything on ur comp down an netstat jus to make sure theres nothing open, the go d/l a big file from microsoft and the speed at which u dl tht file multiply it by 8 to get ur actuall speed, ie 256KB/ps=2048Kb/ps thts roughly wat u should be getting on base package on the 8Mb connect u should be getting 1000KB/ps=8000Kb/ps or there abouts.
      i work for sky........
