47db is quite high and the best you could hope for is ~7000kbps.

However, your comment about your noise margin suggests you have line problems so I doubt you're getting that.

Please post your router stats if you'd like help.

Log into the router admin page and select show statistics. Just post the lower set i.e. attenuation, sync and noise margin.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4736 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 47 db 13 db
Noise Margin 8 db 13 db

hope this is them, i cant believe my upstream line attenuation & noise margin should both be 13db

Re: speeds at 3.10KM from telephone exchange

The upstream attenuation will usually be much lower than the downstream (attenuation is linked to frequency) but that's a surprisingly big difference 47/13. Not necessarily a problem though. Noise margin and attenuation both of 13db is just a coincidence.

Your attenuation at 47db is quite high but should support a sync of ~7000kbps on a relatively quiet line. You're only seeing 4736kbps and the shortfall is down to a noisy line. This is also supported by your big noise margin swings and probably by that high variance between up and downstream attenuations.

My guess is you're using a crappy extension or a splitter or both. Have a look at the cabling and faceplate help forum for info on diagnosing and fixing line problems.

If you get this sorted I wouldn't be surprised if your downstream attenuation drops by a few db and you may see even more than 7000kbps.
