      Yeah been through that link several times, was hoping for something with more detail, have looked on the mognuts website for info on the tool but havent found anything. Anyway tomorrow evening when I get back from work Ill test the connection directly from the test socket and if that doesnt improve things Ill strip the socket right back and start again.

      Looking at yr stats mate since you disconnected the ren booster you still have problems on your line.

      (Yr Stats)
      Total time = 1 min 40 sec
      SF = 3468
      CRC = 37
      LOS = 467
      LOF = 0
      ES = 27

      (My stats)
      Total time from 21/11/07
      SF = 51181725
      CRC = 7206
      LOS = 9
      LOF = 94
      ES = 1475

      The LOS of 467 in time frame of 1 min 40 sec seems alot. For instance my LOS since my last reboot of router on 21/11/07 is 9. I could be wrong as so often I am!! but there seems to be some other problem. Have you tried disconnecting the orange ring wire from your sockets?? This alone with fitment of adsl nation faceplate had a huge improvent on my line. The guy from BT was very impressed with my set up when I had problems with interleaved on my line.

      Hope this makes sense to you all.

      Regards
      Scoop

      If, as Saturday says, your line is capped then you should be seeing an increase in noise margin as you make improvements. It looks as though there may be another underlying problem rather than the REN booster.

      Have you tried a quiet line test? Dial 17070 from a standard phone plugged into the test socket then option 2. If there is any noise at all on the line then it is a BT job to sort that before you go any further.

      Re: Show me the speed

      As I said earlier, the connection looks to be lightly capped going by the earlier stats (gap between max rate and actual plus reportedly no sync/nm increase with the test socket) - though that's a probability, not a certainty. The capping appears to be only a bit below the level that the router can acheive uncapped and so isn't the cause of the low sync speed and is probably just a distraction from what is the root problem.

      What is clear is that something (noise) is limiting a potential 8096kbps G,DMT connection (10500kbps ADSL2+) to ~5650kbps with only a slightly raised noise margin and indications of very high line errors. Whether this is in the home wiring, BT line or both can only be discovered with a stripped down test socket connection (i.e. just a filter and router connected using the supplied cable) which ispight says he/she will try.

      lspight = Leon the last time I checked was a he ! Anyway just logged in to see all this fantastic info but cant make use of any of it till the weekend, so Ill report back then on what progress I make. I suspect there is an issue with the main line into the house but should have this confirmed on the weekend. Ill also try the quiet line test - something I've never heard of. Thanks again.

      Re: Show me the speed

      Morning all - Looks like I've made progress. I rewired the master socket, replaced all the ADSL filters, and bingo connection is now syncing much higher. The REN booster made no difference BTW on or off. Quiet line test came back quiet. Do these results look better now, and am I now in a position to ring Sky and ask for the cap to be removed and placed on ADSL2+?

      Re: Show me the speed

      ^^^ Those stats are miles better but only cover just over 8 minutes. I would be inclined to check the stats again after 24 hours connected like that to see whether any errors appear.

      If the line is more or less error free after 24 hours then ask Sky to remove the cap and possibly try the line on ADSL2+ which would give a little more speed.

      Re: Show me the speed

      Stats do show a stable connection over a 24 hour period. Ill be contacting Sky tomorrow and see if I can get upgraded. Ill keep the thread posted of progress. Thanks for all the help I've received so far.

      ^^^ What a massive improvement! Negligible errors compared with before. Your line really has cleaned up a treat!

      Definitely a potential ADSL2+ switch I would have thought.
