      Re: Repeated connection loss

^^^ And a Happy New Year to you. I hope that Sky are able to solve your problem and don't just mask it by capping the line.

There is one more test that you can try if you haven't already done it. Log in to the router, go to the Router Status page and then click the centre button at the bottom, Router Statistics.

Keep this window open and watch the downstream noise margin. Yours was 23.6db in your stats and 13.8db in your first post. Disconnections only usually occur well below 7db!

Then dial 17070 on any telephone then option 2, the quiet line test. Listen for any noise whatsover on the line while keeping an eye on the noise margin.
If your router disconnects during this test, you will know by the WAN uptime, which will change to 0.00.

If there is any noise on the line, try the phone test again in the test socket behind the master faceplate if you have one. This will at least confirm whether your extension wiring is all OK.

      Best of Luck!

      Re: Repeated connection loss

Well I have triedall you suggested with no real joy BUT ....

I usually run my PC with sound turned down but I turned it up for a YouTube
and the connecion dropped out with an accompanying "WHoooOOOooo" sound. It is now apparent that this happens every time connection is dropped.

Is this normal or does it indicate a possible Virus - IO have run a scan using AVG antivirus but it shows up nothing.

AND Mossywells stats are proving very interesting! -- Every time it pings Google (my home page) it also tries to visit eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace - I hardly ever use ebay - and certainly have no idea why this is happening - see report below.

You will see a few failed contacts and then successful pinging for a while.

Any ideas if this could be a virus:?

I'm not sure about this but it might just be Skype causing both these issues. Do you have this installed? I think Skype is owned by eBay now and I seem to recall that it does make sounds when you connect or disconnect from the web.

      Re: Repeated connection loss

Mossywells' utility has a sound effect that notifies you when the connection is lost. Also the mossywell utility tries to ping a set group of sites, Google and Ebay are two of the sites it tries to ping to check on connectivity.
