The usual port number for FTP is port 21. Port 22 is for secure shell (ssh), which does also support a file transfer system, but it very different from FTP.

Re: ftp file transer to ipod touch

Hi, I also used this as a way to get my files over on-the-fly!

I installed FileZilla Server on the PC (You can also use Apache as a HTTP way instead). FileZilla ran on port 21. I made sure that was open in the PC firewall (McAfee ect).
Then, Open Safari on the iPod, Browse to ftp://192.168.0.x (x=whatever number your PC is on). The the iPod loaded a page will all the directories and the files (the ones you set in the FTP Server options). Then your done, Save the files on the iPod.

Edit; For ^^ method to work, You need to connect you iPod touch to the internet via the same router that your PC is connected to. So that they are on the same network. If you are trying to download the files over FTP while connected on another connection, Then you need to have forwarded the ports.

if you are going to access over ftp then you need to:

      a) forward the port in the router
      b) test it from an external connection

(at least thats what i had to do for normal ftp server, dunno about itouch thou)
