      ADSL2+ Nightmare

Hi I have now been with sky for 3 months or so. I had BE internet and I was on ADSL2+ getting speeds of 1400KB/s (+/- 100KB/s). Swithed to sky MAX got 750KB/s.
Called tech spent 45 mins explaining I was on G.DMT and wanted to switch to ADSL2+ modulation, tech guy said I was on ADSL2 and I stated that I AM NOT on ADSL2. Explained about mognuts but the guy PROMISED me I was on adsl 2.

I left it a month as I was getting too angry tried again but I couldnt get put throught to Tier 3.

Now my stats are even slower 500KB/s or so!! can someone advise me as to what I should do

      Re: ADSL2+ Nightmare

Your downstream attenuation reading of 15.5db is a known router bug.
Suggest you reboot your router and resubmit your statistics.

      Re: ADSL2+ Nightmare

There's no question that you are on G.DMT not ADSL2+.

You are also capped at 5344kbps as shown by the massive difference between your router reported max rate and your actual rate, plus your high noise margin. Your upstream has also been capped. This is a symptom of Sky's auto-profiling which is often kicked off in response to a customer call about speed issues.

Unfortunately, as you have found, a worryingly high number of T1's are breathtakingly ignorant of ADSL technology. How they could do that as a job and not take it on themselves to learn a little more (if Sky is unwilling to do it for them) is beyond me. With the merging of T2 and T3 to form CST and the earlier wholesale promotion of T1s into T3, you can't even be sure that a CST will be any better informed.

Your only recourse is to call again, go through the low speed troubleshooting and hope you get put through to a "decent" CST. There are some, maybe the majority are. The ones I've spoken to have been excellent and were old Easynet employees.

When speaking with the T1 don't try and explain about ADSL modes or what your router stats are telling you, just say you have very low download speeds and go along with the "check your filteres", "try your test socket" rigmarole.

      Re: ADSL2+ Nightmare

^^^ yes, you need to look at your wiring now. You are getting the max that your line in its current state can support, but you are also getting a lot of errors.

Loook for any extensions that do not have filters plugged in, and also for the presence of a wire connected to terminal 3 of the master socket (usually orange/white) and disconnect it.

      Merry Christmas everyone!!

edit: Two gun Tex beat me again!!
