      About to join sky BB

      First of all,
Hi to all I hope to get to know you better as time goes by

I'm actually after some information please (surprise), I have been told by bb sales my line is only capable of 2.5 - 3Mb which kind of surprises me, I am currently on a 2Mb connection with Pipex, but I have had BB since 2001 (one of the early BT adopters) and I was told previously I should get very high BB speeds.

I am actually 720Metres from the exchange, so I would think distance is unlikely to be a problem and my router stats are

Whilst my router is showing a connection of 8128 I would expect the line is capped as thats not the service I have been on (customer loyalty means very little to ISP's and I've been with them too long)

Can anyone tell me what sort of speed I should expect, I realise I've only signed up for the Mid package, so 8Mb is the best I can expect, but that was only because the sales dept felt I was unlikely to get any faster speed even if I went for the Max package.

      Thanks in advance.

^^ There are no errors in your stats and your line attenuation confirms your proximity to the exchange. You should get 8128 kbps on Mid and anything up to around 15 mbps on Max depending on the quality of your line & wiring.

Many thanks, thats what I thought but I couldn't understand why the operator told me the best I could expect was 2.5 - 3Mbps so I assumed I must have been missing something.

Funnily enough I had major issues with my line last year and BT replaced the external wiring completely, and my internal wiring was installed by my brother who is/was a BT telephone engineer with 28 years experience (he is now office based issuing work rather than doing it I believe) and to make life even easier my master socket is about 6 inches from the side of my PC so hopefully I will get a reasonable connection.

PS have a good Xmas and thanks for your help.
