Well, the WAN uptime would definitely reset if the ADSL connection dropped, so that proves that the problem is between the router and your PC, and not between the router and the exchange.

I would check in Tools-Internet Settings-Connections that you have "Never dial a connection" checked.

Thanks. I've just done that. Fingers crossed and thanks to all so far!

(It's still baffling me though that Sky told me there was "massive interference" on the line, and that this apparently coincided with the dropped connection."

      Re: Problem with interference (apparently)

When Sky can't find anything wrong, they usually blame something outside their control ,instead of just saying they don't know what is wrong. You could have been told "the server is having problems" or "BT are working on the exchange" or "Your router is faulty, we will send another" or most worrying for the uninitiated "your PC has a virus, you should format and re-install it".

If you have a dial-up connection installed, try un-installing it. If you need it in the future it is easy enough to put it back.

You can also check in the LAN properties (Network and Sharing>Manage Network Connections>right click, select properties) that nothing is ticked in the Advanced tab page.

If you want to try the above, do one at a time, so you know which if any, is causing the problem.
