      Slower than usual speeds (congestion?)

      Hello All,

I've been using Sky Broadband for quite a while now and have always had a consistent 15mbps connection (i'm on the Max package)..

My usage is fairly low. When I'm not at home it's about 1 to 2GB per month. When I am at home, it's around 20 or 30GB a month.

In last two days I can't seem to download any faster than 500kb/s with the odd spike to 600kb/s. Normally i can download and browse the web pretty fast, but now it's slow download and slow page loads.

I called Sky, they asked me to do XYZ and I did all of it. I'm not new when it comes to computer systems and networks - I work full time as a Systems Developer for various pharmaceutical companies..

The woman on the phone said my computer has a virus. I told her politely, I'm 100% confident I do not have a virus or any spyware. She attributed my download speeds to that.

So I hung up frustrated - I did a full system scan for spyware, adware, viruses and whatnot. Scans showed absolutely nothing..

So now I am back to square one. I can't get the 1,500kb/s download speeds I used to enjoy and Sky are absolutely no help at all.

My only explanation is that all the schools are out, so the teenagers have started downloading movies, porn, games etc. and are congestion the networks.

Nothing has changed on my PC or any PC in the house. I have tried from different workstations, different OS's, different laptops and configs - nothing.

      Anyone have any ideas?

My router is still syncing at the rates it always has (15mbps).

Could be contention, weather, degradation of equipment on line, faulty filter etc etc. Have you gone through the netstat /all process to see how many connections you have open on the pc?

Re: Slower than usual speeds (congestion?)

I did do the netstat. I have about 10 connections, but I know what they all are.

The speeds have now returned to normal. I haven't done anything, haven't rebooted my PC etc.

      So I'm not sure anymore
