      Question Problems Sky Broadband Connection/Authentication

      Hi,

I've had Sky BB for a week or two now and all was fine until the last few days when I have been having problems. Everytime I open up explorer i get a message box appear which says the following:

"The server www.whateverthesiteaddressis.co.uk at DSL Router requires a username and password.

Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection)."

If i try and cancel out of the box i get a message in explorer on a black background which says in red type:

      401 Unauthorized
      Authorization Required

It almost sounds like some sort of phishing scam as i dont have any username and password for my connection as its on all the time. Also it asks for"authentication" no matter which website i visit and then locks up with the above 401 message if i dont provide it.

Help - this is driving me nuts!

does sound a bit dodgy tbh...the username/password are in the router so its not that

possibly the McAfee privacy service kicking off?...

what address is it trying to go to? its not 192.168.0.1 by chance?

if it is, thats the router itself, and the username/password is admin/sky

If it is IE7, it could be the 'enhanced' security kicking. Have you tried Firefox?

The full exact error message is below:

"The server www.whateverthesiteaddressis.co.uk at DSL Router requires a username and password.

Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection)."
