      Broadband speed change

I have been nearly with sky for one year and i was getting atleast 8mb broadband speed, even though on the samknows.com website i was suppose to get only 4.5mb

However about 3-4 weeks ago i noticed my internet slowed down and looking at the netgear page, my line has been synced onto 3.9-4mb. I phoned up sky, they did a line test and tried to re'sync(??) the line and was told that i would now only be receiving 4mb and that my line would be set to it.

      Here are the connection details:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3968 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 35.0 db 21.5 db
Noise Margin 9.1 db 14.0 db

The line attenuation still seems to be the same, the only difference i would say is that the noice margin has gone up by approx 2db. According to samknows, i am 1.7km from the exchange as a straight line.

Would anyone have any idea whats going on and if the above figures seem okay

      No they're not.

With your attenuation you should be able to connect at a much higher sync speed (~11meg on ADSL2+). If you are capped then it looks like it is only lightly as your noise margin is only a little higher than the default.

The basic problem is that you have a noisy line. See the cabling and faceplate help forum for info on diagnosing and fixing line problems.

Your attenuation would indicate that you are closer to your exchange than I am and I have posted my stats below for comparison.

With a clean line you should be getting close to the 16Mb that Max can give you.

      Re: Broadband speed change

You must check your internal wiring, as advised by Saturday above. Start be plugging into the TEST socket, behind the Master socket faceplate.
