      Connection dropping constantly

Hi, new to the forum. Hope someone can help.

I am going mental with my Sky broadband. I work in IT, and am fairly familiar with wireless networks, but I've never come across anything as useless as this.

My laptop computer with built in wireless connects to the router (the thin, black model) perfectly fine.

However, my PC, which is using a D-LINK DWL-G122 wireless adapter (that used to work fine with BT) is having endless trouble: constant dropping of connection, loss of signal etc. So far, I've done the following:

      1. Changed channels
      2. Disabled firewalls/anti-virus software
      3. Configured my IP address manually, as well as try do automatic detection
      4. Tried disabling the WZC and using just the DLINK software
      5. Disabled uPnP
      6. Uninstalled my adapter, and reinstalled with latest software from D-LINK

Nothing worked, always the same result. The odd thing is that if I leave it for about 20min - 40min, it will suddenly connect, stay connected for a while, and then start dropping constantly (or, if I reboot, it starts acting up again).

The whole thing has made me so frustrated that I'm seriously considering switching back to BT! Any other suggestions? I'm about to try using WEP encryption to see what happens there, but I don't see why that is going to make any difference because I know the D-LINK supports WPA-PSK (used it before).

The only thing I can think of is that the Netgear router has an aversion to D-LINK hardware (read: we want you to buy netgear adapters, not other companies').

Or D-Link have an aversion to connecting to Netgear routers…

      Re: Connection dropping constantly

I've got a DWL-G122 and that connects to my V1 Sky router (the original white one) with no problem at all.

That particular adapter comes in 3 different versions, all of them radically different from each other. Are you sure you're installing the driver software for the right version? It could be that your attempts to update the drivers are being accepted, but when you plug your adapter in, it's not actually using the driver you've just installed.

Perhaps an obvious thing, but I thought I'd mention it.

Yeah, I saw that. Pretty certain it's the right version. On the off-chance, I'll try some of the others, and see what happens.
