      That was quick.

Came home to find my Tiscali Internet dead, went through the usual pulling of cables, out to the shed to get my old USB modem to see if that worked.

Managed to get the line speed so I was relieved my phone cable wasn't severed somewhere under the carpet where it snakes. Hmm I thought, haven't got my activation letter from Sky yet but I'll give their router another go - didn't see the on/off switch on it first time, ran through the set up wizard and hello Sky broadband.

Something always go wrong with me. Do Sky test the speed of the line over ten days like Tiscali do, I'm hoping for a speed increase now I'm on MAX..

there's no 10 day period for Max customer - what u get it what u get...

best way to check things is to try the connection in the master socket (or test if you have one) and see if speed increases any more than u have now...

      Re: That was quick.

With Tiscali I had to enter my username and password, but here I am surfing and I haven't entered anything.

I'm confused, hope that letter arrives soon.

Thats because the username, password and line configuration settings are all embedded in the router so you do not have to doa nything, and so you cant I suppose.

The username and password are built into the router and sky will not release them to users. If you get a letter it will contain the username and password for your email, but if you have already signed up to mysky then they don't apparently send even that out.

      Re: That was quick.

Just managed to login to the email tools, I was adding Sky.co.uk at the end of my username like I did with Tiscali, must of messed it up.

Now we are getting somewhere, Utorrent seems to work fine, no need to mess with any setting it seems.

I'm used to using Outlook Express, is Sky Email better/easier to use would you say?

      Thanks for the help.

You can still use outlook, all the instructions are
      Here
under "using POP" and "Configuring Outlook and other POP Programs".

Is that different to the Admin/Sky combo?

The first thing I did when I got my previous Netgear router was to change the password from the basic one - surely if I keep the above someone could just log into my router and switch off the firewall for example?

      Re: That was quick.

By default, external access to the router configuration pages is disabled. Obviously, if you enable remote configuration, it would be a very good idea indeed to change the password.
