      Re: Router has lost 5mb

      I dream of having 5mb!

I was getting 1420kbps, but this has resecently started to reduce to about 750kbps. Tonight, it has dropped to 220kbps!

      Here are my official stats:

      System Up Time: 00:48:15

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 6 3 0 11 2 00:00:24
      LAN 100M/Full 899 0 0 42 0 00:48:11
      WLAN 11M/54M 24004 20313 0 9479 1700 00:47:59
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1536 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 63 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 6 db 13 db

      However, speedtest gives the following:

That's with the Router (Netgear 9***) connected direct to the test socket.

Still, at least I'm only paying 17 a month for this crap service.

OK - maybe before we get too down on Sky we could ascertain whether they are at fault?

      How are you connected? Wireless?

That's still a very healthy noise margin and like James67 I see no reason why you should be capped at all. I do not understand why Sky cannot connect you at 15323 kbps if your connection remains stable.

      Re: Router has lost 5mb

Because the customer asked to be capped at that speed he was talking to me and he asked to be capped at that speed as the high speed was generating alot of errors on the line.

No I never I said I would not mind droping to 13.5mb if I had to. I never asked to be dropped to 13.5mb.

As soon as my 12 months are up which is Sept 08 I am off back to Be.

      Re: Router has lost 5mb

Well you are at 13.5mb now because at the higher rate your line was generating errors, I said this to you on the call and you said even if I was at 13.5mb I wouldnt mind that at all. Thats when I configured the line to 13.5Mb. If you want I can put it up to 15 or whatever it was previopusly but you are going to get a very unstable line for errors, your choice.

You're going to leave Sky over 2Mb of speed which you cannot have due to line stability issues? Up to you I suppose.

      Re: Router has lost 5mb

In fairness, because Be don't force you to use a buggy router, it might well be the case that he can get 16+ Mbit/sec without errors on Be using a decent router, as opposed to having to be capped at a level that allows the defective Sky router to work.

Of course, that should change when Sky finally roll out the new V1 router firmware, but by heck have Sky been trying their customers' patience.
