      Downstream speed

Hi all please ignore all other posts innitiated by me,

right ive had BT round today who have repaired the line which was damp and my downstream speed has risen to the max i would expect with my attentuation

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4256 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 54 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 12 db 21 db

the problem lies with the fact on all speed tests im only getting a 1.5mb download speed, could this be caused by virus's as all this running on an extension from a xte faceplate and all equipment is fine noise on phones is virtually non existent. What could be the problem

      thanks for your time,

      George

How are you testing the download speed?

As you say, your connection sync looks fine.

There are many possible reasons you may be getting a low download speed. In order of likelihood:
      • you are connecting wirelessly (try wired)
      • you are using an overloaded test server (try Skyuser's)
      • your TCP/IP settings are incorrect (run TCPOptimizer)
      • you have a "benign" app running using bandwidth (e.g. Sky Anytime, BBCi etc)
      • someone else is using your bandwidth (e.g. someone on the LAN or rarely a wireless hijack)
      • you have malware on your system (run an on-line checker such as f-secure or Panda)

right. on wired used sky user, ran tcp optimizer, dont have a 'benign' app running and i dont have malware as far as i am aware i followed a huge article on removing virus's AVG Free Forum :: Removing Viruses, Virus Removal Tools :: HOW TO CLEAN AN INFECTED COMPUTER very good if you ask me all came back negative i can't post advanced stats new router,

      hope this helps.
