      Sagem slower than Netgear?

Due to an issue at sky's end, I am on my second instance of sky broadband max in the last month. Sky had to create a new account, which meant closing the old one, and being without BB for about 10 days. Now, first time, i had the v2 netgear router. This time, i've got the Sagem.

Before, i synced at 6200, now i only sync at 4000. What has gone wrong? using the utilites, i checked my attenuation, and was on ADSL2+. is there a way i can check what i'm on with the Sagem? I take it there is no way to get my password etc to use in the Netgear router that i still have?

      Rick.

Have you still got the Netgear? If so why not try it, it will probably work OK.

…and even if it doesn't connect him to the Internet, he will at least be able to see what speed it syncs at.

      Re: Sagem slower than Netgear?

Thanks for the replies - the Netgear does infact work.

And it too only syncs at 4MB. I'm on ADSL2+. How very strange, as i haven't changed a single thing!

      Re: Sagem slower than Netgear?

This could be down to a couple of things.
Firstly the condition of the line, secondly interference on the line (such as christmas lights and street lights etc) and thirdly a limit that has been put on your line by sky.

Perhaps if you posted the line stats for us to look at we could give you a better indication of what it is not or what it may be.

      Re: Sagem slower than Netgear?

Have you plugged in any new phones or digi boxes since the change over?

It looks like you will have to go through the line checking procedure. Use the 834 so that you can get the full stats. Obtain your detailed stats, plugged in to your normal socket and post here. Then remove the faceplate of your Master socket, if you have a modern one, and plug in to the TEST socket. Run for a few hours then post again. If there is a problem you may see an immediate rise in your sync rate, but running for a period will allow an error check. When you plug in to the Test socket, use only the filter, no extensions.

I'm on the ancient master socket, so no test socket. I plan to upgrade this, but i'm curious as to why it's dropped.

      Re: Sagem slower than Netgear?

Nothing very obvious to me except that with your attenuation, on 2+ you could expect a 10-12 Mb sync. However your SNR is a bit low so there is a noise problem somewhere.

I would suggest that you disconnect the ring wire from Terminal 3 in the Master socket, see if it makes any difference. Sometimes the benefits of doing this are immediate and evident.

Won't this stop the phones on the extensions from ringing?
