Afaik, Ellacoya doesnt actually restrict speed in anyway. All it is, Is something that monitors the traffic (over the Easynet Network, In this case) to watch/catch users who are using alot of bandwidth over the network.

I guess this would only be to obviously make sure people stay within the bandwidth limits and make sure it is being used correctly.

      Though, I may be wrong.

Ellacoyas, can and do indeed restrict traffic if so intended. The ellacoyas Monitor traffic, throughput, number of users etc etc but its main design is to prioritise traffic.

Look at Plusnet as an example. Plusnets Network Management Statement
You will see there is Bronze, silver, gold etc queues. This is all done by the ellacoyas only allowing say 15% of the networks capcity to be available for P2P.
Anyway its a large topic and just so much to it, most of which is way above my head I am sure.

Sky / Easynet have never denied having Ellacoyas, but we do know they are used on the Connect packages and not the LLU ones.

No evidence of traffic shaping here. I'm getting speeds over 900 kilobytes per second on my BB Max connection.

I'm maxing out my 8mb connection on Max so no throttling here. Also no 16mb line but that's another (long threads elsewhere) story!!

      Re: Sky MAX throttling connection!

After installing Azureus torrents download at above 30KB's but if I open the torrent in utorrent still get 30KB's weird. I have setup both the same using the same port.

I will just use Azureus from now.

      Re: Sky MAX throttling connection!

That suggests that you didn't set up utorrent correctly. All bit torrent client programs have the ability to throttle both the download and upload speeds. I haven't used utorrent myself, but perhaps it throttles the download speed to 30kbytes/sec by default.

      Re: Sky MAX throttling connection!

I have the mid package and use utorrent and get very good downlaod speeds, was getting over 200kb/s for one file this afternoon. I don't think there is any throttling, etc
