      Add line rental

When I joined, I ordered online http://shop.sky.com so I wouldn't have any problems with sales staff getting my MAC code wrong on their ordering system.
Having read this in another forum i thought i would give it a shot.
Everything went smoothly until i got to the page below.
Can someone explain the advantage/disadvantage of adding line rental?
      Thanks in advance.

      Re: Add line rental

Looking at it myself, it simply looks like a way to rent the phone line from sky instead of BT.
So instead of paying a line rental to BT every month of about 11.50 - 12 you pay sky a line rental of 10 a month.

I would say the advantages are that all the bills are in one single place, but the disadvantage is that if the phone line goes wrong you need to go through sky to get it fixed as apposed to BT, although ultimately it will be BT that need to look at it and fix it. So your saving a couple of quid a month but adding a middle man whom you cannot bypass int he event of a fault as BT will not log your fault unless it comes from sky.

      Re: Add line rental

Forgot to mention that the same is true for every other ISP or company and not just Sky.

Safest way in my eyes is stick with BT for the line rental.

      Re: Add line rental

      Wrong section!

Taking line rental with Sky saves you 50p per month on line rental charges, plus you get free caller ID (so you can see who's calling you, if you have a phone that supports caller ID).

The downside is that if you've got several network services (like 3-way calling, call redirection, things like that) you can end up paying more with Sky than you do with BT. Also you lose the ability to use override codes (like 18185) which in some cases (such as calls to mobile numbers) offer much cheaper call charges than either Sky or BT.
