      You only need 2 adn 5 connected at each socket and as above make sure anything plugged into the line is on a filter. Either that or get an ADSL pre-filter faceplate for

      been through the whole house everything is filtered

      stats with only 2 and 5 are as follow

      Connection Speed 576 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 50 db 15.5 db
      Noise Margin 12 db 12 db

      So still something dodgy there, then. Are the remaining two wires that are in use part of a pair? They should be blue with a white stripe and white with a blue stripe. In fact, any colour will do, provided it's colour with a white stripe and white with the same colour stripe - if you see what I mean.

      erm ive only disconnected wires 3 and 4 from the extension socket i havnt touched the master the wiring on the master is as follows

      from closest to the wall

      blue = 1
      orange = 2
      orange + white = 3
      Blue +white = 4

      on the extension

      blue + white = 5
      blue = 2

      You've probably described the numbering incorrectly on the master socket. Usually they only have four terminals, numbered 2 to 5, not 1 to 4.

      But assuming that the blue wires are correct, remove the orange wires on the master socket. If you're using microfilters, then the orange wires do nothing except add interference to the ADSL signal. And it's at the master socket end that they do the most harm.

      Connection Speed 640 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 50 db 15.5 db
      Noise Margin 12 db 10 db

      found a stray phone with no micro filter removed it....

      Connection Speed 2464 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 52 db 15.5 db
      Noise Margin 12 db 21 db

      going to individuly remove each phone and see what impact it has

      just removed sky from the multi splitter in the lounge

      Connection Speed 2432 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 52 db 15.5 db
      Noise Margin 1 db 21 db

      is the noise good or very bad
