      Broadband Intermittent Connection

Been with Sky for just over a year now and other than the odd failure been quite impressed. However over the last week I have noticed that the connection gives connecting and disconnecting numerous times whilst I'm on the net. I am no expert whatsoever but I have a feeling that from looking at the wireless network wizard I can see there are upto 6 or 7 wireless routers in the area, many of which are Sky. Is this just that too many people are using broadband at the same time?

Are you on wireless or wired connection when it drops? Could be contention or a change in line conditions. Might want to post your stats so people can see your config.

Try changing the Channel you are using, you may find one that is relatively clear. The annoying thing is that many of the users in your locality may not even be using wireless and have not bothered to turn it off.

Tell me about, it, first thing we did was turn it off as we aren't using it but there are about 8 people within "view" of my router adn 6 of those are on the same channel.

      Re: Broadband Intermittent Connection

I found this happening to me with alraming regularity. Very annoying when you've just been dealt a killer poker hand. Sky advised me to turn UPnP Off from the router settings page.

This worked a treat and connectiong has been stable since.

      Hope this helps,

      Re: Broadband Intermittent Connection

      Intermittent Connectivity?

Is your router connecting to an extension socket or the Master Socket?
Are you using the telephone cabling that Sky provided?

Have you tested using the Ethernet Cable?

This is important actually… try using the cable, if you are still getting intermittent connectivity then there is a large probability that it’s a line related issue, if not, then your wireless settings can be tinkered with, but your wasting your time doing so until you establish where the problem is and using the Ethernet cable is the only way your going to find out.

      Anyways….

If you find out that by using the Ethernet Cable your still getting intermittent problems then ring up Sky Tech, have a ticket opened for Intermittent Connectivity, they’ll transfer you to the CRT team, they will examine your connection and if it’s a problem that’s fixable through line tweaking then it’s very simple for it to be permanently resolved.
