Browser won't connect to internet but ftp and newsgroups do?

      Afternoon all

Not sure how to or what's gone on here to be honest.

I was playing Counter strike this morning fine surfing was fine also.

Then i went on to argos link and it couldn't find it ( the window you get when it can't find the link)

I checked the router thats fine , so i rebooted and it was still the same .
I tried another reboot of another drive that i use sometimes and that seemed the same too?

The strange thing is when i login to ftp servers it works fine and the same when using newsgroups?

I don't know whats wrong or how to solve this nothing looks wrong other than IE won't connect to the internet? And it also won't connect to my router as well via IE which i found odd?

      I'm on win xp

Hence the reason i'm on works computer to post this.

      Thanks..

Try downloading and running, Winsock Repair it may help. Be sure to use the utility to back up your existing settings, just in case

Also running TCPOptimiser would do no harm.

Note - When downloading always select the Custom install or you will end up with stuff you don't want.

Sorry, I did not notice you had tried another disk (dual boot). It could be a DNS problem or there is an outside chance that it is a hardware problem with your adapter, but I think this is unlikely. You could try putting OpenDNS servers into your LAN Internet Properties. Details on how to do this are on the link.

The problem is when i put 192.168.*.* in my browser to access the router it won't connect like it doesn't with any web pages?.

I've checked the router and all lights are on and even swapped ports around from 1-2 etc but still no joy?

When you put the OpenDNS addresses into the Internet Properties, try also putting addresses into the 'Use this address' box.
      Try putting in
IP address 192.168.0.2 (Disk 2 would be 192.168.0.3)
      Subnet 255.255.255.0
      Default gateway 192.168.0.1

I have found this works 9 times out of 10. Reboot your PC after making the changes.
