After speaking to Sky and BT, Bt actually sent an engineer out. She confirmed what Sky told me. Basically the max my line can handle is just over 8mb. She wasn't aware of any companies doing 16mb in our exchange. Told her about SKY LLU etc but on the laptop she showed me the stats she got and the max throughput would be 8500, so she and SKY both advised me to stay on the 8mb product. She said the noise and attenuation stats were normal range but if the 8500 figure remained that's all I could get.Bit annoyed now as every checker showed I could get 12-16mb.

Unless you are desperate for the unlimited download try and get sky to put you on the mid service !! Will save you a fiver a month, as you've had an engineer out and problems they may let you downgrade.
Post Sky DLM and after some cowboy contracters and BT ruined my line quality (was 6mb pre DLM):
