Initial call to Sky BB technical team was frustrating, one person said they didn't support Sagem only Netgear and another wanted to know what VPN was!
why would they know what VPN is? its a consumer service and the majority of home users dont need it so its not supported

Just received my replacement and its a Sagem again! good old sky. I've can't really wait any longer to get my vpn running again so I'm going to try and jump back to old isp plusnet and dig my netgear out of the cupboard again. Any updates on VPN (nortel) and the Sky Sagem router much apreciated

Lightbulb Re: Sky Sagem Router & Nortel VPN Client Problem

I just got broadband activated today - with the Sagem modem - so after reading this decided to try my VPN client as I work from home every now and then.
I use the AT&T VPN client, and it's working fine. I didn't open any ports or anything in the router.
Sounds like it has to be some settings in the Nortel VPN client (I know the important one in AT&T is "Negotiate UDP encapsulation via VPN for NAT traversal") not working correctly with this modem.

Re: Sky Sagem Router & Nortel VPN Client Problem

Exactly the same problem here. They sent me another Sagem having said they'd send a Netgear. Is this incompetence or is it random which one you get?

If anyone has any solutions re Nortel v. Sagem router then please post.

      Thanks

Re: Sky Sagem Router & Nortel VPN Client Problem

I've no experience of using the Nortel VPN client, but reading the documentation for Nortel VPN, it looks like support for "NAT traversal" needs to be switched on at the server end. By default, support for NAT traversal is disabled.

This "NAT traversal" mechanism is required if the router doesn't support "VPN passthrough", which seems to be the case with the Sagem router.

Re: Sky Sagem Router & Nortel VPN Client Problem

      Hi

Just been looking on the web and found the following pdf about Nortel VPN client running NAT Traversal.

      http://www142.nortelnetworks.com/bvd...t/TT030602.pdf

FYI, I am waiting for my BB Max to be installed and I use Cisco's VPN client. I have opened a new thread about that so I will keep you all posted.

      Cheers

      Benje302

Thumbs down Re: Sky Sagem Router & Nortel VPN Client Problem

All .. hate to say it but sadly I have the same issue as you .. I spoke to 8 customer Service Rep and was treated as if I was insane ... quite sad really that they could not acknowledge the issue at all. I have requested a Netgear box and waiting for a call back as yet I have not received one... The issue is definitely Sagem.. Sadly what Sky needs to acknowledge is that they will start to lose users if this issue is not resolved the word is spreading and as we ll know BAD news travels fast .. The only alternative is that if SKY fail to replace the Sagem router we have to go with a provider who can confirm and commit to providing a better solution ... FYI I have the Sagem black box its an issue. .... very frustrating .. waiting 5 days now

Re: Sky Sagem Router & Nortel VPN Client Problem

Hi, I had the same problem removed the sagem router and used my old Netgear router and this works. It must be something to do with the Sagem router.
