      New Sky user...

      Hey all,
I get my Ssky Mid BB activated tomorrow, having moved from Broadband. Pity about the Sagem router that was sent. When I bought the packaage (TV, Phone & BB) I specifically said I didn't want to change my current setup. Agent (in shopping arcade) said this was fine..now I know he was lying..[sighs].
I already have a perfectly good Netgear and I use wireless and all 4 wired ports on the back for high speed data transfers to and from a could of NAS's and my Printer. Also have a link to a switch in my office.

I notice the Sagem only has 2 servicable eNet ports..shame...Any one know if there is a way of getting the username and password from the Sagem unit yet? I can then go back to a proper bit of kit and not a "Tomy" my first network bit of kit.
Other option is to hope the the Sagem kit will allow the connecting of a couplle of switches to expand the eNet port capabilities...

      Damn annoying!

      Cheers for any help!

      K

The Sagem has 4 ports, and no... there is no way of getting the username off it.

I guess you're right, the Sagen does have 4 ports but it clearly states in the User Manual that only 2 are operational, with 2 being held for "future use". Unless they just work anyway..and I'll give it a go when it's all up and running..

All four ports work fine no problems. It was changed after the manual was printed.

      Re: New Sky user...

      Hi All,

Have SkyBB now activated. The swap from my previous router to the Sagem was pretty easy. Network back up in 2.5 minutes...which was nice!

My down and up speeds are a little low though (I know I had better when I was using Nildram) these are as follows..
      Down: 3240kbs
      Up: 329kbs

I am "meant" to have the Mid package so I guess this should be closer to 8mbs.
Is there anything I can do to improve this?

I've migrated from Nildram in the past couple of days where I got 3500kbs connections and I get 4500kbs connections with sky. Just annoying they won't stay connected for more than a few minutes at a time.

      Re: New Sky user...

I have followed the "Test your master Socket" and this has lead me to do the following..
      1) Remove all the phone extension leads from my house..the original ones did reach (almost).
      2) Fitted the supplied ADSL filters.

..which has resulted in a more than 100% improvement! Now I get 6.5-6.8Mbs...much better!
I also note that P2P transfers (uTorrent etc) are many times quicker.

      Well worth doing this exercise!

      Thnx.
