They have submitted a report to the top tier and they're hoping they'll do a line test with bt (so they say anyway). In the meantime I got them to put me back up to the 16 mbps. Will report back when I hear from them.

Re: After a problem free year - horribly wrong

Im having the same problems, now Im fixed at 9888 speed wise and still have noise and dropped connections and I've had a TPS done.

I still think its that software update that was done a few weeks ago.

      Regards.

It looks like your cap has been lifted right off. Have you tried rebooting the router? It should sync a little lower with a SNR of about 7.

I asked them to put the cap back up to 16 mbps as reducing it to 7 mbps hadn't made much difference. Nothing to get excited about though as it's definitely dropping out more than yesterday and I'm being reconnected at all sorts of weird speeds from 2 mbps upwards. The pages even seem to be loading slower than yesterday despite the netgear stats showing 15323 kbps.

Big increase in line attenuation today

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2183 kbps 154 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.5 db 24.6 db
Noise Margin 8.4 db 8.5 db

Re: After a problem free year - horribly wrong

Have had no word from them but I've not lost the connection since Saturday. The stats since then have shown a speed of 4060 and the noise margin has increased considerably

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4060 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 22.0 db 12.0 db
Noise Margin 20.9 db 14.0 db

I fear this is their "solution".

Re: After a problem free year - horribly wrong

I'm afraid you'll have to keep pushing customer service into doing something about this. There's no way that your attenuation should jump around that much unless there's a problem with the line. The noise margin figure will vary over the course of a 24-hour day, sometimes quite a lot, but the attenuation shouldn't really vary over much more than a couple of dB at most. Putting a massive cap on the sync speed is not the right solution.

Thanks James. I will put that to them. The current uninterrupted spell doesn't necessarily mean the problem is solved as I had lengthy similar spells while on 16 mbps.
