It's just since migrating download speeds through Azureus are pitiful: <4kbit/s,
      even with many seeds.
      Thanks.
      P.S.
I've port fowarded by the way and checked in Azureus.

Not if you are on the Mid package.

I'm actually on Connect but with the spec of Mid until my exchange is unbundled.

      Re: P2P throttling?

      There is throttling/shaping on Connect.

Although AFAIK it's down to BT, not Sky, as Connect is simply a re-sold BTWholesale ADSLMax service.

      There's no throttling/shaping on Sky's LLU services (Base/Mid/Max).

      Re: P2P throttling?

Maybe there's a bit of confusion there. Sky Broadband Connect does provide the same spec (more or less) as Sky Broadband Mid - there are no slower or faster options for customers who not connected to an unbundled exchange.

Anyone on Sky Broadband Connect will experience a certain amount of P2P throttling. The way BT provides these connections means that it's difficult for Sky to offer a reasonable service for the majority of its customers on unbundled exchanges without implementing a certain amount of traffic shaping.

Was it someone at Sky who told you that you wouldn't experience P2P throttling?

It's Sky that's throttling the connection, not BT. But when you look at the price list for BT Central's services (which Sky have to use), you quickly see why Sky do this.

      Re: P2P throttling?

Yes, Sky told me there was no throttling when I joined, I specifically asked.
Although before asking his supervisor the CS guy had never heard the terms peer to peer of file sharing before, you get what you pay for I suppose. It is very cheap though.
Apparently my exchange is due for LLUing soon, will this restriction automatically end then?
      Thanks.

      Re: P2P throttling?

Oh yeah, no throttling on Sky's LLU services, so your problem will go as soon as you're switched over, which will typically be quite soon after the exchange is enabled.

Pretty poor that Sky misinformed you though. Even at 5 a month, I think Sky's customers can quite reasonably expect to be given the correct facts.

Thanks, hopefully it won't be too long before it's switched.

      Re: P2P throttling?

P2P is getting to be a real pain for all the ISP's, currently 90% of evening and night time internet traffic is now p2p.

Now considering the ISP pays for bandwidth used you can suddenly see why throttling is becoming more and more used and attractive as anything that reduces this huge useage means that they possible pay less in bandwidth charges.

In the next couple of years there could be a huge shake up considering the BBC iplayer is going p2p and other companies like Microsoft are moving their Marketplace to a p2p model as well to reduce their bandwidth bills moving it all onto the ISP's, we could see the introduction of bandwidth bills or a massive throttling of p2p connections by a lot more ISP's.
